For us, this island remains one of the best islands to visit in Thailand. Why do we love it? It’s because Lanta has crystal clear waters, beautiful beaches, great snorkeling, a pristine national park, mountains covered with old growth jungle, and for some reason it still remains uncrowded even in the high season. We stayed on Klong Nin beach with my Mom and my Aunt, it was a really good central location that made it easy for us to visit other parts of the island.
There are different islands nearby for snorkeling and we did a couple of different tours. On one of the tours we visited 4 different islands for snorkeling and beaching – Ko Chuek, Ko Mook, Ko Kradan, and Ko Mah.
I even saw a sea snake and the video captures my reaction quite well – I was brave for a moment though!
On the island of Ko Mook, we visited the Emerald Cave. We had to swim through a cave to reach a hidden lagoon in the middle of the island. It is said that the cave used to be a place where smugglers would rest and it was also used by pirates to hide their treasure.
Ko Kradan was an incredibly beautiful island with a gorgeous white sand beach, good snorkeling, and of course that crystal clear water.
On another tour we visited the island of Ko Rok, it’s part of the Mu Ko Lanta National Park. We loved this little island with its powdery white sand, fantastic snorkeling on the reefs, and wow that water! You can only stay on Ko Rok during the high season so most people visit it on a daytrip. I for one could have just been left there and I would have been fine with that
In between relaxing beach days, we visited Old Lanta Town. There is a nice market there and some quaint restaurants to enjoy, it’s a very laid back fishing village that has preserved it’s old time charm.
On one of our beach days, we all gave the stand up paddle board a go. Everyone was doing great until Gordon lost his sunglasses when he took a dive off of the board. I think we must carry around horseshoes because we actually managed to find them in the sea…what a surprise!
This is what Gordon does while I’m out there paddling!!
Every single day we enjoyed the most amazing sunsets, a perfect end to each day.
Ko Lanta we will definitely be back!
Where we stayed: Niks Garden (Great for us but my Mom and my Aunt’s room next door kind of fell apart)

Good fun on Ko Lanta for sure! We’ll be back there one of these days 🙂
