Trang An Grottoes – Ninh Binh, Vietnam – April, 2016

We visited Trang An Grottoes as a day trip from Hanoi and it’s another one of those ‘not to be missed’ areas. It’s like Ha Long Bay but inland on the river and it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was very beautiful!

Our day started with a visit to Bai Dinh Temple. It’s the largest complex of Buddhist temples in Vietnam. It was quite interesting and different from other Buddhist temples we have seen.

There was a lot of money on top of the bell…for good luck.

After a lunch of goat meat, which was a bit stringy for my taste, we boarded little boats to take us into the grottoes.

We went through several caves and you could tell they have been widened so that the boat could fit through which is too bad because we can only imagine what they would have looked like before. We still enjoyed going through them and some of them were really long!

We shared our boat with a two nice guys from Myanmar.

This trip to see the grottoes was definitely worth it and if we had more time it would have been nice to stay there for a couple of days.
