While we were planning our trip to South America we came across this cruise that fit perfectly with our plans. It also afforded us the opportunity to see Patagonia and get close to the King Penguins in the Falkland Islands – we had to go!
After our visit in Buenos Aires we boarded our ship – Holland America MS Zaandam for our 14 day cruise from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso, Chile.
Our first port was in Montevideo, Uruguay and Gordon mapped out a walking tour that we could do around the old city. The old city was really great and there was enough to see to fill our time here.
I had a great time in the plaza watching the parrots build nests in the trees.
We even had time to drink a bottle of Media Y Media which is half white wine and half champagne. The locals were all drinking it with their lunch so we gave it a try…different but good was our verdict.
They sure know how to grill in Uruguay. The grilling stations we saw were amazing! This is definitely a place for carnivores 😊
Montevideo sure gave us a great first impression of Uruguay!
That evening we enjoyed a fabulous South American BBQ and a beautiful sunset as we cruised away from Montevideo. Later in the evening we took in a South American style show with some fantastic Tango!
It took 2 sea days to reach our next port at Stanley in the Falkland Islands. There was plenty of time to relax, play cards, read, swim, and eat 😊
Where we stayed: Holland America Zaandam-Mid-Ship-Lower Promenade Deck 👍
Is that you guys doing the Tango?
Oh I wish we could Tango but no it’s not us 😑
The tour around town looks beautiful and the BBQ place looks yummy
We enjoyed Montevideo and the grilling stations were really impressive!
