Often times the solutions to life’s dilemmas are far easier than you expect. Why do we look everywhere else for the car keys before we check the ignition? Why do we think there is something terribly wrong before we check the obvious? My younger Brother reminded me not to overthink things once when I couldn’t get the generator in my RV to run. He asked me “do you have enough oil in it?” After I gave him the ‘duh…I’ve been a mechanic for 30 years’ look, I stopped troubleshooting the electrical system and added some oil (when he wasn’t looking of course) and it ran just fine after that! I’ve been drinking beer even longer than I’ve been a mechanic so I should have known not to try and overthink a “beer minute”. You don’t have to look too hard for a place to have a beer minute and you don’t need any special expertise or experience to have one. All you need is a love for life, a love for beer, and respect for this wonderfully diverse world! It doesn’t matter if a place is hectic and noisy or doesn’t have a spectacular view, this world is full of fascinating places and you can enjoy a beer minute at them just by accepting and admiring their uniqueness. Once I reaffirmed what a “Beer Minute” really was, it became so much easier to have them. I was having a Tsingtao in a traditional Chinese Hutong Courtyard when I realized I’ve been having “beer minutes” in China all along! So the moral of this story my friends is; don’t search for an elaborate solution to a simple problem, just sit back, relax, and enjoy life!

Dragons Back Beer Minute at Stanley Village, Hong Kong Island – the dragon boat racing team’s favourite. Too hoppy for me.
It must bevery enjoyable to be the Beer Minute man
all these different flavours and taste lucky you
What can I say, I love my job 🙂
That is an interesting philosophical treatise you’ve hit upon. I think your saying ” live each beer in the moment”. A “Zen” beer, if you will. Interesting. Something to be pondered, over beer of course.
As for the last something other then Anheiser comes to mind. Lol.
As always, you comprehend precisely! 🙂
Whow, I am really amazed to see 4 belgian beers out of the eight on the front row of the last picture. And this in China! Good report, Gord, and nice variety of pictures (beers).
I noticed that too Eric and I wondered to myself…hmmm I wonder what Belgian beer tastes like? 🙂
You are a great writer Gordon! Very profound
Thanks Laurie, it helps when you’re writing about a topic you enjoy 🙂
