We have been to KL a handful of times throughout 2014. It’s such a green city with so much diversity and we love that it’s both contemporary and exotic all at the same time. There’s a lot to see in KL and it’s easy to get around the city by monorail, LRT, or commuter train.
The Petronas Towers are an architectural masterpiece, we were in awe of these towers and they really are visually stunning. It was very cool to be on the sky bridge that connects the two towers and the view from the observation deck at the top was well worth the price of admission. Gordon especially liked the formula one car on display in the Petronas lobby.
We visited a few districts in KL and enjoyed them all, we saw some nice buildings as we made our way around the city. Brickfields (Little India) was an interesting area to walk through and stop in for some good Indian food. Bhukit Bintang, the main shopping area had some really gorgeous shopping malls (Gordon loved the Ducati store) along with trendy restaurants and bars. One thing that caught my attention was the ‘premier toilets’ – what exactly is that? I had to find out and it was nothing special, not sure why you need two toilets in one stall but who knows.
Petaling Street in Chinatown had a great outdoor market walking street with loads of fake goods for sale and many food stalls.
The KL Lake Gardens Park was beautiful and we spent quite a bit of time here walking the trails. It was hard to believe we were still in the city.
We visited Batu Caves, a Hindu Shrine, located just on the outskirts of the city and spent a few hours checking out the area. We found it interesting and we were offered a blessing ceremony while we were there.
When we returned to our hotel there was a long line of Lamborghini’s, Ferrari’s, Maserati’s, and Bentley’s etc. out front (it had us questioning if we were at the right hotel). Apparently there was a ‘millionaire’s gala’ being held at the hotel and wow it was a fancy affair. Let me just say we felt a little under-dressed making our way in between sequined gowns and tuxedos wearing t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops while carrying our little bag of goodies from 7-11 – we couldn’t get to the elevator fast enough!
On our last stay in KL, we rented a condo and this was our view 🙂
We have enjoyed all of our visits to KL and I’m pretty sure we will be back for some reason or another – maybe a Formula One race?
