Argentina Gets It

One of the first things I noticed when we arrived in Argentina was their comprehension of “size matters” . Okay, okay, after this I promise to give the size matters thing a rest but I couldn’t help but stare awestruck at the row after row of 1 litre beer offerings in the super markets and convenience stores! My expectations of beer in Argentina were quite low seeing it is a country that is famous for their wine. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good glass bottle of wine and Argentina has many great selections, but let’s face it……I’m a beer guy. If you like your beer too, you won’t be disappointed in Argentina. Once again we have to appreciate the German’s commitment to ensuring every country had access to great beer! Cerveza Quilmes was founded in 1888 by yes, a German immigrant. They produce 3 of my favourite Argentine beers; Quilmes, Brahma and Andes. Quilmes has basically become a national symbol in Argentina mostly in part to their support of the Argentina National Football team.

Notice how 1 litre fits comfortably in my hand!

Compañía Industrial Cervecería produces 2 other great choices for beer lovers; Imperial and Salta.

Salta beer definitely takes the prize for unique advertising and sponsorship with their tooth implant campaign. Salta has developed branded tooth implants for the country’s rugby players that lose a tooth during a match. These implants aren’t just branded though, they are functioning teeth and better yet functioning bottle openers! Please watch the video, you’ll be happy you did!

In summation, don’t let Argentina’s stellar wine reputation scare you off. You won’t have any trouble finding a fine quality beer here and in a size bigger than most wines!
