We flew from Calgary non stop to Dublin because the flight was incredibly good value compared to flying to any other European city. We do intend to do a much longer visit of Ireland in the future though! Even though we only had 20 hours in Dublin, we did manage to see quite a bit.
As soon as we checked in to the hotel, we headed straight to Trinity College to see the ‘Book of Kells’ and the ‘Old Library’. The Book of Kells is a 9th century manuscript documenting the four gospels of the life of Jesus Christ.
The long room in the old library took our breath away, never have we seen such a beautiful library. The books are incredibly old and beautifully bound. The smell of old books permeated the entire library!
We wandered around and saw some beautiful Cathedrals and admired the buildings along the narrow streets.
We strolled through the Dublin Castle but it didn’t really look like a castle per se.
A visit to Dublin just wouldn’t be complete without a guinness or two! We stopped in at a few pubs. Our favourite one was Kehoes, it’s a very old pub with a great local feel. We enjoyed some live music at Temple Bar. We finished the evening with dinner at Brazenhead Pub.
And the coffee lover in me had to have an irish coffee in Ireland …it was delicious!
Ireland we will be back for more!
Where we stayed: Holiday Inn Express Airport 👍
